2007 OUT TAKES Dallas Film Festival
The 2007 OUT TAKES Dallas Film Festival is just around the corner. This will be our 9th Annual festival, and we believe that it will be our best yet. The festival will again last 10 days spanning two weekends, from Nov. 2nd - Nov. 11th at the Magnolia Theater in West Village.
SOME OF OUR FILMS FOR 2007
Opening Film – OUT TAKES Dallas is proud to announce that the Festival will be presenting the southwest exclusive premiere of Naked Boys Singing! This is the film version of the successful long-running off-broadway revue hit. We’re proud to be bringing this to you from Funny Boy Films (Latter Days - our 2004 Closing Film, Adam and Steve, The Night Larry Kramer Kissed Me).
Must-See Movie – This year we're bringing back the Thursday “Must-See Movie Event” – something you’re just not going to want to miss! This year we have a DEL SHORES DOUBLE FEATURE – we honor our with favorite gay filmmaker from West Texas with a double feature screening of Daddy's Dyin'... Who's Got the Will? followed by Sordid Lives. Don't miss these! Click here to buy a discount pass to both screenings.
Midnight Movie Classic – We’re also bringing back the Midnight Movie Classic with a showing of Barbarella. we think you’re going to LOVE this camp sci-fi flick from the late 1960’s with a one of our long-time gay icons, Jane Fonda.
Stay tuned and we’ll let you know when and where! Individual tickets will go on sale in mid-October.
Women's Centerpiece - The Gymnast, stars Dreya Weber as Jane Hawkins, an impressive gymnast at the top of her game until a devastating injury ended her career. Now she pours the passion, strength and discipline that once fueled her sport into maintaining both a tedious job as a massage therapist and a loveless marriage, until a chance meeting leads sets Jane on a new path. The Gymnast is foremost a story about hope and taking the necessary risks to fully become yourself.
Men's Centerpiece - Laughing Matters… the Men! profiles six out gay performers/writers: Bruce Vilanch, Alec Mapa, Bob Smith, Scott Kennedy, Andre Kelley and Eddie Sarfaty through their standup performances and revealing one-on-one interviews. This is the men's version of our hilarious 2006 Festival Feature with Vickie Shaw.
Hot Women - Itty Bitty Titty Committee, Anna is coming out. But not as gay as a revolutionary. Itty Bitty Titty Committee is a rockin love song to the heady rush of sex, freedom and rebellion that happens when an everyday girl discovers her own strength and the righteous indignation needed to take action and change the world. Our heroine is a shy, just-out-of-high-school lesbian, still living with her parents and working at a plastic surgery clinic. Her world opens up one night when she catches a one-woman army reclaiming public space for women (i.e., spray painting the clinic where Anna works).
Hot Men - A Four Letter Word When Luke enters the gay bar flanked by his sidekicks, he doesn't know that he is about to meet his match-in hot macho man Stephen. Awakening in a twisted heap of naked strangers, Luke heads to work at a Chelsea sex store where he is forced to face his lifestyle by his co-worker Zeke, a confrontational gay crusader who will stop at nothing short of changing the world. Smitten with Stephen, Luke considers giving monogamy a chance. From the Director of "Slutty Summer" from our 2005 festival.
Short Films - We also unleash details of our ever-popular Short Films Programs:
- The Sexy Boy Anthologies - Need we say more?
- Lesbian Life Stories - And you knew there would be some...
- A View Into Queer Life - A mixed bag of queer experiences
- Ya Just Gotta Laugh - We also have our share of funny shorts

FESTIVAL EVENTS AND SPECIAL GUESTS
What makes a film festival different than a regular movie? Well, it's the Festival Events and Special Guests, of course! This year we think we have taken the festival to a new level....
VIP-Only Screening and Reception and VIP Reception - With Cast Members from Naked Boys Singing! It's become a tradition that we pre-screen our opening film (for 2007: Naked Boys Singing) for our Patrons on Thursday, the day before the official opening of the festival, and then we have a special reception for our VIP patrons and sponsors. Well we're continuing that tradition this year, with an extra special bonus! We're inviting some of the cast member of our opening feature, Naked Boys Singing! Then on Friday, while everyone else watches Naked Boys Singing, we will be having a VIP Reception with our Cast Member Guests, where you can see them (and talk to them) up close! Of course, you can only do this if you're a VIP Patron...
Women's After Hours Party and VIP Brunch We're also in the process of confirming Dreya Weber from our Women's Centerpiece Film, The Gymnast. If her schedule allows, she will be present for the screening of The Gymnast as well as our Women's After Hours Mixer. Then, if you can tear yourself out of bed, she will be at our VIP Brunch on Sunday Morning.
Due to popular demand, we've added other Festival Mixers and gathering events. Each Friday of the festival, be sure to gather early in the Lobby of the Magnolia to socialize with other festival guests. While you're in the Magnolia Bar, check out the Art Auction (proceeds benefit the festival)! On opening weekend, be sure to drop by the Men's Mixer and meet Jaymes Thompson, the Director of Gay Bed & Breakfast of Terror. In conjunction with our Beneficiary, Youth First Texas, we will also sponsor a Youth First Mixer on Tuesday at Starbucks West Village.
All the women will surely want to congregate at Rush after the screening of the Itty Bitty Titty Committee while the men warm up for Laughing Matter...The Men in the West Village.
Please join us for the first ever VIP Brunch Featuring our Special Guests Dreya Weber (lead actress in Gymnast, yes the blonde one) and Andrea Meyerson (producer, director or Laughing Matters More… Laughing Matters… The Men and Kate Clinton). Enjoy a fantastic opportunity in a comfortable atmosphere to visit with both of these fascinating women. The Catalina Room is expecting us and is serving up what can only be described as a world class brunch. Enjoy their Sunday Champagne Brunch (did we mention the bottomless mimosas). Tickets are ONLY AVAILABLE ONLINE - no purchases at the door! (Please bring your email confirmation to be admitted)
The festival closing reception at The W Hotel in Victory Park is surely a step up from previous years - come check out this new happening spot in Dallas. But be sure to get back to the Theatre for the Awards Ceremony and the Closing Film, Shelter. If you're not dead by then, join us at S4 after the film to celebrate OTD#9 "in the can".
CLOSING SUNDAY ENCORE EVENTS
Don't forget that on Sunday (closing day of the Festival), we will be showing Encore Screenings of the Most Popular Feature (as determined by attendence) at 12:30pm and the winner of the Dallas Voice Audience Choice Award at 2:30pm. The Audience Choice Award is determined by your vote! You should receive a ballot at the conclusion of every screening when you leave the theater - fill it out! 5 is good and 1 is bad. If you forgot to vote, you can also cast your vote online. We'll tally the results on Saturday and send out an email after midnight telling you what the Most Popular Feature and Audience Choice Features will be. You can also check the OUT TAKES Dallas website after midnight on Saturday!
