We are pleased to announce a call for film/video submissions for our ninth year of

OUT TAKES Dallas - The Annual Lesbian and Gay Film Festival ! Dallas is home to one of the largest and most active lesbian and gay communities in the United States. With our community’s support and interest, OUT TAKES Dallas is again excited to be hosting the works of filmmakers from around the country and the world.

As a 501(c)(3) Non-Profit Organization, our festival is completely volunteer-operated and staffed, and we are the largest all-volunteer gay & lesbian film festival in the US. Over the last eight years, OUT TAKES Dallas has hosted thousands of attendees and served as the venue for the North Texas premiere of numerous films, all while donating over fifty thousand dollars to our community beneficiaries.

This year’s festival dates are November 6-9, 2008. In addition to screening the best GLBT films the year has to offer, we are also planning a series of exciting and unique events throughout the festival. We regularly host filmmakers and actors for our featured films and we will be planning our guest visits after our schedule has been finalized. Please review the attached submission requirements and submission form carefully. Failure to provide the required information may result in your film not being considered for this year’s festival. SUBMISSION REQUIREMENTS

  • Film Content - Films and videos should be by, about, or of interest to gay men, lesbians, bisexuals and transgendered individuals. We are seeking narrative and documentary features and shorts. Rough cuts and works-in-progress are eligible for submission if an exhibition print or tape will be available by September 30.
  • Exhibition Format – The film must be available for exhibition on one of the following formats: NTSC Betacam SP (4:3, 16:9, or anamorphic), NTSC/PAL DVD (4:3, 16:9, or anamorphic), 35mm (Flat or Scope). Unfortunately due to equipment limitations, we can’t accept other exhibition formats.
  • Screener Format - NTSC DVD is the preferred format for preview screening (Region 1). However, we will also accept PAL or Region 2-5 DVDs or NTSC or PAL format ½” VHS videocassettes.
  • Screener Media - Preview discs/cassettes must be labeled with the title, running time and contact information (including name, address and phone number).If you would like your preview screener tapes and other materials returned to you, please enclose a stamped (with correct postage), self-addressed mailer (we’re non-profit and every dollar counts!). OUT TAKES Dallas accepts no responsibility for loss or damage of entries during shipment to or from OUT TAKES Dallas.
  • Press Kit – Please submit an electronic press kit on CD/DVD with your submission. The press kit should include: 1) a synopsis, production credits and press information regarding your film/video, 2) high-resolution still photos (captioned with who appears in the stills and who the photo is credited to) suitable for use on the festival website, print program, and press materials (Good stills make a difference in film placement and press coverage - even the shortest short can get press coverage or active festival prominence with a captivating still).
  • Film Trailer – You are encouraged to submit a DVD-quality video trailer for long format narrative and documentary films (either on the screener media or on press kit media). Films with trailers will get better promotion and scheduling consideration during the festival.
  • Submission Form - You must complete the entry form and include it with your submission. If you are submitting more than one entry, you must complete a separate form for each entry. Failure to fully complete the required information on the form may result in your submission not being considered. To receive acknowledgment of receipt of your entry, you must enclose a stamped, self-addressed envelope or postcard with your submission.
  • THERE IS NO ENTRY FEE!

  1. Fully completed and signed entry form - Film Submission App (word) | Film Submission App (pdf)
  2. Film Screener Media (DVD or tape)
  3. Film Trailer - DVD quality (optional)
  4. Film Electronic Press Kit and Still Images (on DVD or CD)
  5. Self-Addressed Stamped Postcard (to confirm receipt of entry)
  6. Self-Addressed Stamped Mailer (if screener to be returned)

Entry Deadline: All submissions must be received by OUT TAKES Dallas by July 30, 2008. Final decisions will be announced by end of September.
